This book is a must for any serious prayer warrior in the Body of Christ. Author, Kenneth Copeland explains how every problem in life can be counteracted through prayer.
Not sure how to pray or what to say? This book has the answers. Did you know there were different kinds of prayers? Well you'll find out about that in this books as well.

Teaching us How to pray

I bought this book because my prayer life is too shallow and I want to know how God wants us to pray; specifically. I know we’re to claim His promises for every situation that arises and stand on His word. This is a great book for learning how to do that! Not only are there specific prayers in the book that he and Gloria have thought out and used but the explanation and encouragement scripturally. This book will give you confidence in your prayer life instead of wondering if you forgot something, like I do – You have not because you ask amiss.

Since you can't 'look inside the book' here are the chapters: Prayer Secrets, Praying for Results, The Battlefield of prayer, Prayer that Changes Things (the prayer of Agreement – Binding and Loosing – the prayer of Petition and Supplication & United prayer), Intercessory prayer, Kinds of prayer, Fasting and prayer, Hindrances to prayer, A Deeper life in prayer and Prayers; a chapter dedicated to prayers for different situations. The book is only about 120 pages and no words are wasted or repeated. Kenneth and Gloria Copeland are prayer warriors and I have every confidence that anyone who practices these teachings will walk in victory over their circumstances. It really is helping me settle into a prayer life with confidence.

In Northern China and in Shanxi Province, the purported birthplace of Xing Yi Quan, Master Li Gui Chang is a legendary figure in the world of martial arts. Few practitioners have approached Master Li's achievements in Tai Ji Quan and Xing Yi Quan. Li studied Xing Yi Quan and Ba Gua Zhang with the great Dong Xiu Sheng and Tai Ji Quan with Liu Dong Han.

Li Gui Chang's expression of Xing Yi Quan is sometimes referred to as the Xing Yi "Body Method", because of its emphasis on subtle internal body actions and internally sensing Qi and Jin. Hence, it is completely congruent with Daoist Yang Sheng (nourishing life) practices.

In this unique book, Song Zhi Yong, a senior disciple of Li Gui Chang, reveals the formerly "secret" foundational training which is the key to Master Li's Xing Yi Quan:    

  •     Tu Na Si Ba (Four Essential Breathing Forms)
  •     San Ti Shi (Three Body Posture Training).
Tu Na Si Ba was traditionally only taught to senior disciples, and has never before been written about in English or Chinese. Tu Na literally means "spit out" (Tu) and "receive" or "accept" (Na). In both martial and Daoist practices, Tu Na refers to breathing exercises associated with self-cultivation.

When practicing the gentle, slow movements of Tu Na Si Ba, one effectively "breathes out the old and takes in the new" (Tu Gu Na Xing). This combination of inner-directed movement and breathing builds up Qi in the body, while simultaneously strengthening the tendons and bones. Every aspect of Tu Na Si Ba directly connects to the spirit, internal mechanics and martial techniques of Xing Yi Quan. The practice of Tu Na Si Ba is particularly critical to understanding and developing skill in San Ti Shi and Pi Quan (Splitting Fist), the core practices of Xing Yi Quan.

The final section of this book presents San Ti Shi, the fixed standing (Zhan Zhuang) practice unique to Xing Yi Quan. One of the key training methods, but perhaps the least understood, the practice of San Ti Shi allows one to actualize the body's intrinsic, instinctual energy and to connect with the Original Spirit (Yuan Shen).

In the text, verbal instructions are deliberately minimal. In this way, the text adheres to the true teaching. When Song Zhi Yong teaches, he does not tell the student what he feels, but instead asks each individual student what they feel and then makes corrections accordingly. Therefore, we have only included the verbal instructions that Song Zhi Yong actually gives to his students when teaching them San Ti Shi and Tu Na Si Ba. The more than 450 photos by Master Song's disciple, Valerie Ghent, clearly illustrate details of the exercises.

This book covers only the key internal development exercises of Li Gui Chang's Xing Yi Quan: Tu Na Si Ba and San Ti Shi. It is not intended to be a complete manual on the art of Xing Yi Quan. Video footage of Song Zhi Yong performing Tu Na Si Ba is posted online. The link to the video is accessible from within the book. About the Author
Master Song Zhi Yong is a senior disciple of Master Li Gui Chang. Song Zhi Yong teaches Xing Yi Quan and Tai Ji Quan in Taiyuan, China and is a senior advisor with Internal Arts International. This book is the product of a collaboration with Tom Bisio, Valerie Ghent, Huang Guo Qi, and Internal Arts International.

Little Treasure

Excellent book with clear photos, insight and guidelines for teachers and students of Li Guichang's very refined and deep Neigong set. Very grateful to Song Zhi Yong and Tom Bisio for making this 'indoor' set available to the general public.

Tu Na Si Ba is a very neat and compact set, useful to any martial practitioner, and key to developing the Shen Fa (body method), along with San Ti Shi, in this style of Xing Yi Quan. The set is deceptively simple, but there is much to unpack, so I recommend this as supplement and aid to instruction from a qualified teacher, regardless of level of experience in internal arts, yoga and/or other types of mind/body movement.

I have been practicing this set for several years now with my teacher, Martin LaPlatney, and, over time, it has made many changes to my body and helped improve the quality of my Taiji and Xing Yi practice. While this set is a great aid for developing internal qualities, it's also a health maintenance set--very useful to those rehabbing from injuries. As a Xing Yi and Taiji instructor, I am very happy to have this manual to share with my students.

An Important Work that Gives an Important View of the Inner Workings of the Internal Arts

This book details information on a central neigong method employed in the style of Xing Yi taught by the late Li Gui Chang and Song Zhi Yong, as taught to Tom Bisio. This method is considered very important to developing the internal aspect of this style, and combines with the San Ti Shi to create the root for high ability in this art. Such information used to be the type of thing you would expect to be only available to disciple level students of the art. While I would say that personal instruction would still be important so that corrections could be made, still the book has great value just describing the practice and explaining where the exercise fits in this style of Xing Yi Quan. I have practiced this, but I have not developed it enough to get many of the benefits available. The book encourages me to go further with this practice. I noticed since trying again, that my qigong had improved in the interim since practicing it before and makes me wonder if I can get over the hump this time...

Increíble! El libro y CD es muy relajado, calmo, y divertido. Los cuentos tiene una mensaje positivo, feliz, y dar confianza a mis dos niños (7 y 8). Cada cuento es en ingles y español, y para mis niños, son excelente para aprender los dos idiomas. Cada aventura maestra técnicas para relajar el cuerpo y dar una buena estructura para aprender ingles y español durante la experiencia. También cuando los niños escuchen los cuentos, ellos mismo relajar y uso de imaginación y dar una cofinancia que ellos mismo si pueden usar en cualquier tiempo!

La narración floja fácil cuando ellos escuchen. Si español es su idioma nativo, la repetitiva palabras halar los niños endentó el ritmo de cuenta y ayuda ellos con anexidad. Si usted quieres sus niños aprender ingles o español, eso cuentas dar la oportunidad a escuchar, aprender y absorba la idioma en una forma de paz y tranquilidad. We just got done looking at Goldie Hawn’s “10 Mindful Minutes: A Journal” and here I am back, BAM, with “Start Where You Are: A Journal for Self-Exploration” by Meera Lee Patel. Trust me, these two journals are totally different from one another, so you’re going to want to keep reading.

Patel’s journal comes from a unique, but familiar perspective. How often have you put change on hold because things weren’t where you thought they should be for you to make that change? I’ve done. Patel, the author, has done. Odds are good that you’ve done, or maybe you’re doing it now. “Start Where You Are” encourages you to stop looking, and waiting, for that other day, and to instead start where you are. Her journal asks probing, thought provoking questions to help you find out more about yourself: what you really love, your motivations, how see yourself and how you feel others perceive you, and more. However she does mix it up. Sometimes the journal will just ask a question for you to answer, but other times you’re drawing pictures, or filling in circles or other shapes, or coloring in a drawing.

Along with her journaling exercises, Patel includes inspiring quotes from a variety of sources. Since she’s an accomplished artist, with lines of stationary sold in boutiques, the quotes are presented in colorful, whimsical fonts, suitable for framing (if you’re willing to cut them out of the book).

It can be difficult to think about yourself and your desires, particularly if you think they’re unattainable. Artist and author Meera Lee Patel does her best to make the journey a painless and playful one.

I loved journals like this one

I ordered 2 of these journals for both of my nieces, ages 17 and 14. When I was growing up, I loved journals like this one. I think it's important that teenagers explore their hopes and dreams and innermost thoughts, and it's even better if they put it on paper. Now that I'm 30, I have so many journals like this one to look back on. I cringe at some of the comments I wrote in those things, but I also smile and become teary-eyed at others. It's fascinating to look back at some of my dreams and to realize I've accomplished them and to marvel at the unique path my life has taken. I wanted to give both of my nieces a similar experience. I didn't want to buy them something that they'll use for a year or so and toss out when something new and more exciting comes along. I thought that this would make a perfect gift because it's something that hopefully they keep for years and can reflect back on as adults. I've included a note in each journal that says something to that extent and lets them know how proud I am of both of them and that I love them.

Now on to the book itself - first off, the artwork is gorgeous. Some of the drawings (they're more like paintings) are absolutely frame-worthy. They appeal to both adult women and teens because they're somewhat whimsical while still giving off a modern feel. The colors are so vivid and bright, they almost jump out at you. The quotes are all very thought-provoking. And the prompt questions really got me thinking myself... so often in life, we forget to explore ourselves, to ask ourselves important questions. We get caught in the rat race, in our everyday hectic schedules and we lose ourselves. Even though I bought this journal for my teenage nieces, it's certainly something that I'd consider purchasing for myself as well. It really does appeal to women of all ages.

It would also make a great meditation companion. As a writer, I find writing to be very meditative. It really assists me in my daily breathing exercises and meditation sessions. It helps me to clear my head, to focus on nothing but myself for a few minutes. I usually use a blank notebook, but this journal would be even more helpful.

good for inspiration not so good for recipes.

I have already reviewed this cookbook, but I have now made just about every recipe. I have some helpful hints! When Ella calls for buckwheat, it is the light buckwheat, not the Bob's red mill variety. My children laughed for quite sometime when instructed to " take out ( the buckwheat focaccia ) when golden brown". It was mud brown to begin with. So it is going to lighten in the oven? ;). Most of the recipes work with half the recommended dates. The girl has a serious sweet tooth. The quinoa pizza crust , almond chia bites ( with less dates),spicy roasted chickpeas, berry scones with coconut cream , quinoa fritters, sweet potato brownies, zucchini noodles with alvocado pesto, lentil bolognese, all work pretty close to directions. The majority of the recipes in the book do not. From poor seasoning ( 3 tbsp dried herbs in bread.:( to bland and fall apart ( oat bars) it's a very frustrating cookbook. Most of the recipes are done better on other blogs. i was also disappointed in recipes for date purée ( dates and cinnamon... actually it is much better with lemon juice and vanilla powder) , Nutella, roasted veg, baked apples, hummus, polenta, quinoa ....snore. I wish she would have added a little creativity to them if added. As is, I use it primarily as ideas to create my own recipes, which is not a bad thing. Inspiration is worth a few dollars! Overall, I applaud her simple cooking style and primarily healthy ingredients. I hope that her next book has more recipe testers so that I can have more success with it.

Great ,simple, and tasty plant based recipes. I wish the layout was easier to navigate but delicious nonetheless!

There are a handful of food / lifestyle blogs I follow and the Deliciously Ella Blog is one of my favorites! As a brief back-story, the author, Ella Woodward was diagnosed with a rare condition called Postural Tachycardia Syndrome at the age of 19 which left her bed ridden, exhausted, with heart palpitations and when no relief was found through convention medications; she looked to changing her diet to be a whole food, plants based diet which did indeed alleviate her symptoms.

The good:

The great thing about all this is Ella is self taught, so, if like me you are not the world's best cook - no worries as these recipes are largely uncomplicated and easy to follow. You do not need to go wild and buy a bunch of kitchen gadgets though honestly a good blender and good processor do lend well to many of these recipes. Also a lot of her recipes use basic foods that are easily found, and though there are some ingredients the average cook may not have in their pantry (Nutritional Yeast, Maca, Cacao, Baobab powder to name but a few ) there are often substitution or the ability to omit such ingredients. The beginning of the book features a pretty comprehensive guide to building your pantry as well as a guide to the properties of many of these ingredients; and this follows through in each section.

Though I have tried many of her recipes from the blog., it was great to finally have her recipes accessible in one spot. The book is organized into sections that highlight the ingredients : Grains, nuts and seeds, beans and legumes, vegetables , fruit followed by a smoothie / juice section and a guide to her eating mantra along with resources. I also liked the fact that she added personalization to the book detailing her story at the beginning .

There were a lot of new recipes here that I had not previously seen on the blog ; so I was happy to get so many new recipe ideas. That said, I spotted several dishes I have made in the past such as the Chia breakfast pudding, the coconut porridge (which is delicious and great pre workout) the spicy roasted chickpeas and the raw brownies. All were simple and tasted great! The steps are simple and minimal and do not require precise cooking skills; and its really easy to follow.

The bad:

The only issue I have found consistently with the recipes, is sometimes they lack seasoning or a depth in taste. This could be due to the fact that she is not a professional chef or it could be a Brit thing...I am British and growing up there found beyond curries (which oddly British people enjoy very spicy and bold) people tend to hold back on seasoning and spice. This came through in many of the things I have made such as the cannellini soup and the black bean chili which was too obscured in taste by tomato paste ; and I found myself having to add more of the given seasonings, or add different types of spice / herb to give it any flavor at all. So far my husband has not been impressed with any dish so if you have someone with a bold palette you might want to taste carefully before you serve and adjust seasoning to taste.

The other thing to note is this dish is rather dessert /snack heavy but missing balance with enough main dishes that contain a protein element. For example chick peas, potato wedges or cucumber rolls are sides or snacks but not really a main dish; there are a lot of breakfast choices, or sweet snacks along with smoothies, sides, dips etc . I personally really liked the mix of recipes but it's worth nothing to top heavy sweet element if you are looking for more in the way of savory or main dishes.

Finally for those that like their cookbooks traditional: Breakfast then lunch, dinner and snacks, you might struggle with this as with the recipes being sorted by ingredient type there is little rhyme or reason what to expect , for example turmeric fritters and risotto are followed by porridge which is then followed by scones and cookies . It is honestly a little hard to follow and hence my reason for 4 stars not 5 .

That said, as a fan of the blog, I am excited to finally have this cookbook. Like her blog, the pictures are stunning and plentiful ; and there are a lot of new recipes in here I am excited to try! From a home cook to the home cook makes these recipes attainable for us all , bringing healthy, sometimes, raw, always plant based, recipes to the masses; and yes as a parent, I can attest to the fact that the kids will enjoy many of these recipes too and with their simplicity, can even join in making them! A great book, just wish it was a tad more organized!

I really would not want to waste pricey ingredients on her recipes

Disappointing results
I have owned this cookbook for several months and tried a couple of recipes. After the disastrous results, I really would not want to waste pricey ingredients on her recipes. However,there still is one recipe that my family and I are enjoying.

The recipes are hard to navigate as the contents are separated into "Grains", "Nuts and Seeds", "Beans and Legumes", "Vegetables","fruit", "Smoothies and Juices".

We enjoy:Brazil Nut and Arugula Pesto Pasta

We think they are okay: Granola Bars,Superfood Crackers

We wont make it again (big disaster): Buckwheat Focaccia, Blueberry Muffins

The personal story at the beginning of the book is very inspiring. The layout is beautiful. Not a lot of pictures and some are so small and hard to compare to the result. The recipes I have tried so far are all large enough to serve a party. Not sure if I will ever try her recipes since when it is not working, I couldnt even "tough through " by not wasting good ingredients she recommends.
